Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) Key Worker

37.5 hours per week, Monday-Friday
RiverCity Inclusion, Dogwood Place, supports a family-centered, sensitive approach and FASD Program Standards while providing services to families in the community. The FASD Key Worker will work with families whose child has been diagnosed with, or is suspected of having Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, or a similar neuro-developmental condition.
This post is temporary until return of incumbent.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assist families in understanding FASD by providing education and information specific to the needs of the child and family using a family centered approach;
• Assists parents/caregivers in accessing support with community resources, and strives to empower the family to become their own best advocates for their child;
• Works with parents, caregivers, families, and community partners in identifying ways to adapt the child’s environment in response to the child’s needs;
• Utilizes a cultural safety framework when working with Aboriginal families and communities, seeking out opportunities to network and build relationships of trust and respect with key community members;
• Facilitates the development of parent mentoring and parent support groups for parents/caregivers of children and/or youth affected by FASD;
• Develops and strengthens community networks;
• Fosters community education and awareness on FASD using a variety of message delivery methods;
• Functions as a community resource on FASD intervention;
• Maintains all file documentation to accreditation standards;
• Attends staff meetings and approved continuing education programs and networks with other colleagues and professionals in the field;
• Performs other related duties as directed;
• Completion of the Annual Report to Ministry of Child and Family Development;
• Budget and long term planning, follow budget guidelines set out by Financial Manager and approved by the Board of Directors;
• Develop and maintain program specific manuals and forms;
• Develop, evaluate, and implement program policies, procedures, goals and objectives;
• Caseload and wait list management;
• Record keeping, including monthly and annual statistics;
• Ordering and maintaining up to date program resources; ie. Videos, books, and equipment;
• Program evaluations, including parent, stakeholders, and other evaluations;
• Attend monthly Association supervisory meetings.
Rate of pay:
$33.83-41.32 per hour dependant on experience

Requirements:
The following qualifications are required or an equivalent combination of training and experience may be accepted.
• Undergraduate degree in health or human services (social work, nursing, psychology, child and youth care) or equivalent education and experience
• Education and training in child development
• Training on providing parent support for parents and caregivers of children and youth with FASD
• Experience in group organization and facilitation, and understanding of group dynamics
Required Skills/Abilities:
• Extensive understanding of FASD as a brain-based physical disability
• Demonstrated skill in applying a family-centered strength-based approach when working with families of children and youth
• Demonstrated ability to use a cultural safety framework when working with Aboriginal families and communities
• Demonstrated ability to flexibly accommodate the communication, learning styles, and ethno cultural, and socio-economic circumstances of all families
• Understanding of youth and women’s addiction issues
• Good understanding of service delivery dynamics, including strengths and barriers at the community, regional and provincial level
• Demonstrated skill in working collaboratively with multiple community partners and service providers using diplomacy and excellent communications skills
• A safe, reliable vehicle/transportation with adequate insurance
• Physically capable of performing all aspects of the job
• Knowledge of community resources
Qualifications / Knowledge / Skills:
• Consent to a Criminal Record Check
• Negative Tuberculin test
• First Aid
• Maintain a valid Class 5 Driver's License, with business insurance, plus $2,000,000 third party liability
• Must have access to a reliable vehicle
